I briefly tooted on their 200 model, which seems to be based on the 186 design. I did not get a lot of play time, but from what time I did have, it was a decent horn. Low range was stuffy, but the middle and higher register responded pretty well. The sound was all right to me (I played it with a Marcinkiewicz CH H2). I did not like the valves. They felt very rough to me (I'm not sure if it was an issue with lubrication, but I haven't felt valves like that before). The horn was also on the tall side (I'm 5' 11"). I personally don't like that, but it didn't really hinder anything.

If I were looking at this for purchase, I would save up some cash and purchase a nice, used horn.

The price is pretty good, and I think these have a large following in the school systems for a reason. I know nothing, though, regarding how the instruments maintain. I did not give a thorough inspection of the horn that I tried out.

I'm sure you meant resoldering... I'm sorry to be such a nazi, but I couldn't help myself from chiming in on this...

Another reason I don't think it would stand welding. It's thin brass, not steel.

I played one, briefly at a symposium in Davie, FL., a few years ago. The inner, main slide completely dislocated itself, upon being pulled. It had a stuffy sound in the lower register and was very rough around the edges, as concerned the rotary valves.

I've played about 10 or 12 of them. Some are better than others, but none of them are built as well as an old American-made tuba you could buy on the 'Bay.

If you don't mind buying a Chinese-made instrument, your instrument repair person does not mind working on them, and you like to see your repair person very often, then one of these should be fine for you.

I used to love to see my repair person very often but then he moved to some far away place, Iowa I think.

I purchased a M&M f tuba. Very poor decision on my part. The instrument was extremely poorly made, there was absolutely no note that played in tune without considerable effort, and after four trips to my repairman to fix various problems I gave up and sold the disaster (at a loss) to a guy who just wanted to learn to play a f tuba and did not care about much else. (I think he ended up selling the instrument for scrap brass.)
