Kudos to Phil Sinder and MSU

Post by Sam Gnagey »

I'd like to experess my gratitude to Phil Sinder and Michigan Stat U. for hosting a great tuba/euph day yesterday. Matt Troppman and myself were guest clinicians with Phil. It was a well-run event which seemed very beneficial to the more than 50 participants. Thanks again, Phil(and his students), for organizing and running such a fine day from morning registration to the final massed tuba/euph ensemble at the end of the day. If you weren't there you may have missed your one chance in life to hear a cimbasso duet.

Hi all,

I certainly agree with Sam that this was a great event: congrats to Phil and his studio for organizing everything!
Phil and his students also performed at the event, and all sounded great. It's always especially hard performing at events that you also have to organize. Yes, Sam and Phil's Cimbasso duet was quite something! Sam also played a movement of the Frackenpohl tubatunes on his cimbasso, which was great.

I don't know how to post a photo directly in this page, but here is a link to a pic of Sam and Phil after the performance:

This may be the only photo ever taken featuring two E-flat CImbasso players ?!

Best to all,
Matt

It was a great day. A lot of work, and very tiring but a well worth it event. I really appreciate the time that these great players spent with us. It was a really fun and educational day!

In addition to Phil Sinder, thanks also to Mr. Tropman and Mr. Gnagey for their time spent and wonderful performances.

But also.......
Just because it's the Cimbasso, doesn't mean it should be played in a duet :P

Haha, it was really something, that's for sure. And something I may never hear again, which is a shame.

Hopefully next year we will have a similar event.
