Hi,
Right now I have all of my tubas in their gig bags sitting on the bell in my practice room. My room is really cramped and I could use more floor space. Any recommendations?
I know there is the K&M stand (for use when not playing) and the hercules stands, but I'm not sure if they would take up less space or make it worse. For the record I've got:
PT6
Gnagey CC
PT10
Willson Eb
Conn Grand Orchestral BBb
Martin Stencil sousa
and not very big room, my roommate, who is a trombonist also have a couple of instruments in there too.
Thanks,
Bill

You could always put in some shelves for storage, or hooks on the wall (sufficiently strong!) to hang tubas up. I remember this has been discussed in the past if you do a search.
I like using the K&M stands. I don't think the tubas take any less space, but they are safer. No stepping on bells, or knocking dents in the bottom bow as any contact is just with the rim of the bell. If the K&M stands are too expensive, the M&M ones are also fine for use in a practice room.

You could store some of that stuff at my house.

The sousa probably takes more than its share of space. It shouldn't be too hard to find some way of hanging it on the wall.

I bought a Sousa for infrequent use, so I mounted mine on the ceiling. 3 long straps with fastek buckles, so I can hang the Sousa upside down (flat side against the ceiling), center the bell in the horn, then hoist the whole shebang up till it's flush against the ceiling. I think it looks pretty cool, and it's surprisingly quick (a couple minutes, max) to get it up or down. My wife's not so excited with the new decoration, but she prefers this arrangement to stepping over it on the way to the closet.MartyNeilan wrote:The sousa probably takes more than its share of space. I bought a bicycle rack and mounted it on the wall to hold my helicon. I am going to get another one for my King 1240. I was sure to mount it into a stud.
Of course it might be hard to do this with cases and gig bags.

Put a horn or three in your bedroom.

Re: I need some more floor space
Here's the solution...
Put the Willson inside the bell Conn BBb, then put the Sousaphone around the Conn, with the bell laying on top. (it's like those nesting dolls!), when that's done, grab the sousaphone and throw it outside. When this is done, you'll have lots of space and still have 2 CC's and an F.
I'll send you a bill for the consultation!
