I used to own this MANY years ago. I think I loaned it to a student never to be seen again. I seem to recall that Knaub had some excellent commentary in the introduction. Honestly, that's all I'm interested in but I'll buy the book for the opportunity to relive those thoughts.

I can vouch for the interesting, informative material at the front pages of the book---it's a very worthwhile publication. Alas, it's out of print, and I sold my copy. I hope I can find another.
Is this the Donald Knaub that taught trombone at the University of Texas for during the 80's-90's? He might still be around the Austin area. Could always hunting down and seeing if he could help you out. Great guy, I always enjoyed working with him while I was in school.

I don't know where one could locate Mr. Knaub, however your description of him seems to be spot on.
