Look it up wherever you will, debate it to a fare thee well, castigate me however, there is one reason cats are the worst possible pets, and should be banned, especially around the infirm, the aged, and the pregnant:

toxoplasmosis.

OK, I admit even the CDC has now backed off the strict prohibition of the above, but do you really, really want to take the chance?

Personally, I'm with Winston Churchill:

"I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals."

I prefer the TAC-CAT for home use.
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

I also favor the ICBB (Inter-Continental-Ballistic-Beagle) for outside applications...

I checked both. We were solely cat owners until some friends had to move back to England and needed someone to take their dog.
So, we adopted Pebbles, a 4 year old corgi.

However, Mo Vaughn here (who is 13) was about as happy with the new living arrangments as one would expect a 13-year-old cat to be. He has since grown to accept the situation, now the two of them get along fine (most of the time).

Corgis are more like cats than dogs, from my experience.

No, you can't boss a cat around; but if you respect them and *ask* them to do things, they will. At least mine does, sometimes with voiced complaints that are hilarious. But I'm also quite aware that the only reason why I'm the Head Cat in the house is because I'm bigger; if I weren't bigger, or wasn't the food/water supply, I would not be boss.

And that really is what it comes down to....do you NEED to be the boss? If so, you're going to be a dog person.

Having a dog is like having a kid that never grows up; having a cat is like having an adult from a different culture than you, sharing your house.

Sometime after the holidays (probably the weekend after New Year's), I will be adopting two cats from a friend of mine, one male, and one female (both fixed, so no kitty babies running around). She is moving in with her fiancé, who is very allergic to cats, and can't have them in the house. The arrangement is supposed to be temporary...I'm taking them for 6 months, until someone else, who has agreed to take them, moves into their new apartment in the summer. I have the option of keeping 1 or both of them, if I so desire.

The best part is, because I'm helping her out, she's giving me *all* the supplies needed to take care of two cats for six months, at no cost to me.

This could be framed and hung on the wall in our house.

Maintaining the psychological upper hand with cats requires intelligence and finesse. With dogs, it only requires having dog biscuits handy. Sheesh.
