New Miraphone tubas for 2009

I received the 2009 Miraphone price list today, and there are some notable additions. New for 2009: Piston F, new rotary CC, and two older rotary CC models have been revived...

First is the new piston F...

Revived is the Kaiser CC; I believe Tommy Johnson used to play this one...

- spiral spring system
- nickel silver wreath

This is the new CC version of the 191 rotary BBb...

CC tuba, "Bruckner", bell 47 cm, 5 valves CC-291B (CC-291 5V)
- bell diameter 470 mm (18,504 inch)
- 5/4
- rotary valves
- bore of valve section conical 20,4 - 21,2 mm (0,803 - 0,835 inch)
- spiral spring system
- material of mouthpipe nickel silver
- mouthpiece TU31


And an old friend is back, the 185 CC, probably with the newer flat whole step 5th valve unless you specify otherwise...

Yes, but Miraphone doesn't set suggested retail or minimum selling prices, so it's best to call your favorite dealer and see what they'll charge.

I wonder how the pitch will be on the 190CC. That is quite a horn, with a unique color. If they have improved the intonation to 186/188 parameters, then that is quite an option for a 5/4 CC tuba.

The guy to speak with about this would be Joe Murphy. He has one of these second-generation 190 CCs. This latest iteration of Mirafone's Howitzer model benefits from many improvements made in Mirafone's manufacturing process since the last time the horn was produced a couple decades ago, plus it uses the same .835" super-quick rotary valves that can be found in the 191.

It is good to hear some new big rotary C coming on the market. Choice is quite limited, compared to piston models.

Either way, that give us all about 3 months to start saving our pennies.

Didn't someone here play the prototype of the piston F? I think from what I remember, it looks like a small 1291. Somewhere on here is a picture of the prototype.

I would suspect the 291 to be similar to the 1291, and the F to be similar to the Firebird or Eb's. It appears as if the days of awesomely-priced Miraphones have passed.

Makes me wonder if prices of brass, copper, and other raw metals fall, will the price of horns fall?

No....except the exchange of the dollar is at about 1.30 to the Euro now...much less than when it was at 1.80 but prices still high.....but I'm no ecomomist.......

Maybe I'll just keep a wait and see attitude.....or maybe WWBW will take a trade in of a car for the horn....

Two weeks ago the Euro was worth $1.23 today it is $1.43 so don't expect price breaks anytime soon
