Re: Firefox 3: recommend: wait
I got it a couple of weeks ago as well and I like it so much that it is now my main browser. The only crashes I have had were for missing add-ons.

Ditto, but I just don't like Firefox 3 as much as Firefox 2.Tubaryan12 wrote:The only crashes I have had were for missing add-ons.
My work computer was upgraded to FF3, but my home computers will wait until it's absolutely necessary.

I tried it and hated it. I uninstalled it soon after. That is very unusual for me. Hell, I had Opera on my machine for years.bloke wrote:Is anyone extensively using google's "Chrome" browser?

I have FireFox 3.0.5. There have been a couple of updates but everything seems to be working just fine. Also, I am now using Vista... came on my new Toshiba laptop. I'm getting used to it. I don't think Vista deserves all the bad things that have been said about it. I like it. (of course, I like St. Petersburg tubas, too!

Re: Firefox 3: recommend: wait
I've been using FF 3 and have only had one "episode" of crashing so far (since it was released, I think). The only add-on I have that isn't compatible is FasterFox, and I'm fine with that.
I'm liking it a bit more than 2, but it's not that huge of a difference to me.

I love Google Chrome-I'm using it right now. For me, Chrome is much faster than Firefox. Chrome is a streamlined browser designed to be simple and flexible. I do miss the add-ons like Download Helper, Ad Blocker, and WeatherFox, but Chrome is still a much more efficient way for me to browse. Chrome is still new, so there are a few plug-ins that still do not work with it yet.bloke wrote:Is anyone extensively using google's "Chrome" browser?

Re: Firefox 3: recommend: wait
Here's a strange question: I have tried to update to version 3 for some time. Each time I go through all the steps and it tells me I have successfully installed the latest version. But, when I check what I have,it tells me I have version 1.9.3257.As I said, strange! Any suggestions?

No, I have made no changes. I just can't understand that it says it has installed the upgrade, yet when I verify, it hasn't.bloke wrote:You may have Firewall issues...??scottw wrote:Here's a strange question: I have tried to update to version 3 for some time. Have you changed from one firewall to another *after* installing the first version of Firefox that you ever downloaded?

How many people on this board use Opera? I have never had problems with this browser. It's fast, and the older versions run on anything from a 66-MHz 486 machine running Windows 95 on up.
Any time at all is tuba time. Watch for the signs.

I use Flock, which is what many people migrated to when Netscape Navigator went under. It's based on the Mozilla engine (I think Firefox is, as well???), and I have had no stability problems with it (knock on wood).

I have no problem with Firefox 3 and prefer, particularly the IE tab facility which means I can now use for sites which are not 'Firefox friendly'. Chrome initially seemed great, but I soon missed the spell checker and AutoFill facilities in Firefox

Re: Firefox 3: recommend: wait
I have in the past. It just didn't handle all of the web pages I went to, so I never considered it a replacement option for IE. It has a very small footprint and is extremely fast! It's been a while I may have to try it again.Jesse Brook wrote:How many people on this board use Opera? I have never had problems with this browser. I am currently also running the new IE beta. When they finally debug the thing it will be very nice, but now, as a warning, do not download the IE beta 8. It does have one thing Microsoft included to make it user friendly during the trial: a compatibility button. If a page won't load, just click the button and it will emulate IE7 and load normally. A step forward for Microsoft betas.
**EDIT**
I just loaded Opera 9 and it is fast. Faster than I remembered. No spell check or bookmark toolbar (2 features I like), but the speed may make up for that.

Re: Firefox 3: recommend: wait
With all the talk about different browsers I thought it might be good to toss this little tidbit in:
I have used Firefox for several years and at one time decided to uninstall MS-Internet Explorer to save a little disc space and have less stuff load when booting up. DON'T DO IT! Uninstalling IE will see to it that you never get another Microsoft update and your computer will most certainly be quite open to vulnerabilities due to the fact that many of he Microsoft products (and the operating system itself) are full of holes. As much as you might hate it, you need to keep IE on your computer. It seems that service packs will not download with any other browser.

phpBB has its own spell check. So, even if one has installed the FF British English add on, phpBB may still recognize words as misspelled.bloke wrote:I shouldah knowed. <--(Americun spellangs)...
