Well, Joe, FWIW, the purpose was to see what people OWNED (past) and not just bragging rights about what they currently own. Rather to see how tastes have changed and just to watch how one's stable changes over time. And to see how high some of the numbers got. I for one will be the first to admit that while my current horns serve me, they are not the be all and and all but are rather compromises based on budget and other practical concerns. If I had more money or less responsibilities, I am sure my signature would read quite differently. And several of the horns on my "sold" list would still be in my possession if it wasn't for the @#$% IRS when I ran my computer consulting business for a couple of years.
I think that many who have already responded have found this thread fun to read and a lot more interesting than the latest silver / laquer or BBb / CC thread.

Adjunct Instructor, Trevecca Nazarene University
Owned:
Miraphone 186 BBb - probably early 70's
Cerveny 693 5/4 BBb
Boehm & Meinl CC - four rotors
Miraphone 188
Conn/Meinl Weston Frankentuba CC - 1911 Conn 15J with Deck valveset
Yamaha 621S F - serial #31
Now own:
Rudy Meinl 4/4 CC
Rudy Meinl 5/4 F
By far the best CC and F tubas I've every played. May even add a 3/4 CC while I'm here. As Marty said, it's interesting how tastes and, even more important, perceptions of sound change and what horn/mp combintations can facilitate that, along with lots of practice.

I have one of your CB-50s that managed to make it's way to David Fedderly's shop in 2001. Perhaps you remember seeing it and playing it again a few years ago during a masterclass at Texas Tech during a Proteus 7 stop somewhere out in West Texas. It's been my main horn since I bought it in 2001 and I'm quite happy with it.Matthew Gaunt wrote:
CC's
getzen cb50-main horn for couple years (back and forth with rudy) then sold, later had another for about a year when with boston brass)
after selling 2nd cb50, and rudy then got piston meinl weston 2155
if you have one of my old horns, love to hear how it/you are doing!
In response to the rest of the thread:
Own
Canadian Brass CB-50 CC
Meinl-Weston 45SLP F
Previously Owned
c. 1984 B&S "Perantucci Model" F tuba (similar to current PT10)
c. 1980 Rudy Meinl 5/4 CC

My current collection includes:
Mirafone 191:
5 valves, gold brass. Very in-tune horn, except for the D below the staff (sharp, finger it 3 instead of 1-2). Resonant, mellow sound.
Mirafone 181:
6 valves, gold brass. Very sharp 3rd partials, especially when playing softly, 5th partials somewhat flat. This horn plays almost like a big euphonium.
Weidlich F tuba:
4 valves, clockwork springs, 3/4 size. Can't play very loudly on it without overblowing, but the intonation is pretty good. If anybody knows anything about this maker (K. Weidlich, Regensburg) I'd love to hear from you.
Besson Sovereign euphonium:
Got this in high school in 1974. Very nice instrument, although it's starting to show its age.
I also have an ancient oval rotary-valve tenorhorn (maker unknown, basicly a wall-hanger), a Getzen bass trumpet, and several tenor trombones.
So far I have only acquired instruments, never sold any. The one who dies with the most horns wins!

Quite an exercise trying to remember them all...MartyNeilan wrote:How many tubas have you owned, total, over the course of your life?
Bones and Euphs are OK, too, but please lets keep this to low brass, else the list could get a mile long.
I've owned 22 horns.
8 different tenor trombones
6 bass trombones
5 euphoniums
2 baritones (British style)
And, the first horn I ever owned...
1 Conn Director trumpet.

That spans about 25 years. Most are long gone. I currently own four:
Willson 2950 euphonium
King 2268 euphonium
Besson 955 baritone
Yamaha 641 tenor trombone
So it took a long time, but everything is under control.

just this one since 1970
BBb Ernst David; 4 valve
Only recently did I start investigating its history
and the history of the instrument maker. I've compiled
what I've learned so far on a web page:

Comments, Corrections & Additional info welcomed.

How many horns?
Lets just say,
My IRA,
lies put away
in tubas today.
but I've been told, by lawyers bold,
to say no more-
until I'm old.
