Horns bought/sold/traded at TUSABTEC

Post by deputysgttuba »

Who among the Tubenetters bought/sold or traded instruments at TUSABTEC this year? I bought a new PT-20P from Custom Music at the event and it.,so far, is like a dream come true for me. It is now much less work to make music on this instrument than my old one.

I did have my Yamaha 621CC on display at Lee Stofer's booth, with the intention of selling it, but it didn't go. I also, had my Sam Gnagey tuba at Lee's booth. It wasn't for sale, but rather, I left it there for people to check out, as Sam makes some great tubas. I was having some valve issues that I couldn't fix, but Lee worked on it and got them working better than ever. If I had outright bought a new tuba at the conference, I wouldn't be allowed to live here anymore. If the Yammy got sold, the 5 valve Cerveny (653?) at the Dillon booth was pretty inviting - played well and near equal value to the Yammy.

I began a transaction to sell my F Schmidt 3301 BBb tuba to Baltimore brass, and also began a transaction to purchase a Meinl-Weston 5450 "Thor".

Very excited! (if I can come up with the money, that is....student loan here I come...)

A Norwegian Star followed me home (from Dillon's booth) and I was allowed to keep it. Actually my wife was there to help me pick it out. She liked the sound of it so it came home with us.

How truly blessed we are to have wives (and children in my case) that have such discerning taste in husbands and fathers! My wife and 15 yo son followed me for hours Friday in the elephant room helping me first thin the herd of horns, and then assisting me with their eyes and ears to help me spend a considerable (to me) sum of money on what seems to me to be the most suitable instrument for my playing needs. :D

I wondered when inquiring minds would ask? My technologically gifted bride will do this ASAP.

I put money down on the PT-6 that I'm going to have refunded, now that I actually had time to play both the Thor and PT-6 extensively. After having my professor listen to me on both horns, and he agreed that they were both the best fit for me, we both decided that the Thor was the better horn for me overall.

Those words will save you a LOT of grief, so thanks for the explanation for us curious strangers. :)

Congratulations on the new tuba!
