No, not you guys who modify them---these (see ad). Anybody got any? They are apparently made of copper from what I have heard.

These modifiers hopefully are sketchily represented in the drawing, as some of the shown features are in strong contrast to what just about all makers try to present in their mouthpieces.
Is there any written evidence that these modifiers ever were used in real music making?
The closest I remember is from The Art of Trombone Playing, where Kleinhammer recommends covering the tip of the mouthpiece stem with a piece of thin linen to make an exposed ppp entry possible.
