Add the Tchaikovsky "Romeo and Juliet" to the list.

Oh yeah, Zarathustra. LIke the Tchaik Piano Concerto, people will wonder what they're listening to after the opening. I just heard that on the radio last night, I would pay to hear that at least once a month--LIVE, not recorded.

Tchiakovsky's Symphony No. 4, a very fun piece to play if you are a brass player (the Finale at least
).
Dvorak: Symphony No. 9 "New World Symphony"
Resphigi: Pine's Of Rome: The Pines of Appian Way
Wagner: Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral (from Lohengrin)
Mahler 5:
Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique
--I'm just naming pieces I enjoy playing, and hearing. Who know's what will go over well at your particular concert venue.

He's not kidding. And it's not that far-fetched of an idea, since old Piotr was criticized for being "too western" by his contemporaries of Russian composition. But a "German" composer? Perhaps "German-style" composer would be a better choice. Words do have meaning,ZNC Dandy wrote:tubashaman2 wrote:Anything Russian or Tchaikovsky (I consider him a German composer because of his style.....)
What? You're kidding right... You have to be, if so, its very funny. If not...

Of course it does...the thought was left uncompleted and someone else "helpfully" pushed the Submit button for me.bubbacox wrote:So, does punctuation?Todd S. Malicoate wrote: Words do have meaning,
Sorry, I meant:
So does punctuation!
What I meant to say was:
Words do have meaning, and calling him a "German" composer implies something completely different from calling him a "Germanic-style" composer.
Thanks for your indulgence...the home internet connection has been down all weekend.

¿pero hace la puntuación extranjera?
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Bernstein's Candide overture never fails to get an enthusiastic response.

You might try a couple of theme concerts, like "Shakespeare comes to Symphony Hall." Then program Mendelssohn's Midsummernight's Dream, Tchaik's Hamlet, and Selections from Prok's R & J. See if the local college/university would loan you a few acting students in period costume to emcee/usher/greet patrons. Offer glasses of meade at the lobby bar. Well-heeled patrons tend to go ga-ga over that kind of crap.

Do what "50 cent" does in that Vitamin Water commercial and intergrate "his own piece" into Beethoven's 9th. You also have to get your conductor to immitate the style of conducting in that commercial.
