This comes back so often I think they ought to advertise it as the "Boomerang Bass"!

Forgive my ignorance, but... well, I don't get it. Is there something wrong with the horn, other than the odd valve set placement and the fact that it's made of copper, that results in it being passed around so much? And if those are the issues, why are they considered issues? Sorry if I stumbled on an inside joke or am missing something obvious; I'm just genuinely curious.

This horn ad is a scam. It originally sold a year or so ago and it pops up every so often....so much so it's a running joke around here now.timdicarlo wrote:Forgive my ignorance, but... well, I don't get it. The info is from the original ad. The scammers just cut and paste it to the next ebay sale and try it again, hoping to rip off someone.

The auction is a fraud.timdicarlo wrote:Forgive my ignorance, but... well, I don't get it. It's a one-of-a-kind tuba that was legitimately sold on eBay a year(?) ago...and ever since then, fraudulent copies of it have turned up.

Ah. Thank you for enlightening me. It amazes me to see the lengths to which some people will go (usually the lengths downward) to make money at the expense of others.

Re: Will it never end????
timdicarlo: thanks for asking that. I saw this posted earlier and figured there MUST be something more than meets the eye on this. Because it looks like a really cool horn for less than $2000, odd valve angle or not.
Yeah, he's a new eBay member as of TODAY, zero feedback. Hope this gets pulled before someone gets jipped.

Yeah... Is there a way to post a message on an eBay auction? I'd hate for somebody to get ripped off, especially since not every eBay buyer consults TubeNet before bidding.

Re: Will it never end????
The really funny this is that they try it with such an obvious tuba. Slip a 186 or a 20J past an unsuspecting buyer? Maybe. But such an obvious and identifiable tuba like the Marzan Copper CC is just plain ignorant.

Not just a *** or ***, but you could also probably get a H********* or B** past the TNFJ...You could probably find enough pics on the Internet that you could use on eBay...The Big Ben wrote:The really funny this is that they try it with such an obvious tuba. The rip-off artists will always be using existing pix of tubas since they don't actually have a horn to take pictures of. I'd be willing to bet that any scammers will leave a trail that is easy enough for the TubeNet super sleuths to follow blindfolded. If they don't leave actual evidence, the tell-tale signs will be there.

The trails usually eventually lead to places like Romania, Nigeria, etc. although the email names may appear to be here in the US. I once had a friend of mine try to verify an address in Atlanta. It turned out to be an empty lot! Some of these guys are pretty slick. If you even have a doubt, ask a seller to call you in person.Mister JP wrote:The rip-off artists will always be using existing pix of tubas since they don't actually have a horn to take pictures of.
