Thanks for the link. I've been fascinated by the cimbasso and asked the TNFJ about it sometime last year and got a bunch of good responses. I never knew how it sounded and only knew about it from pictures in a catalog. I kind of like the sound now that I know what it is. It sure looks like a bass trombone, with valves, bent in quarter.
I read an online autobiography of Tommy Johnson and the cimbasso was a horn he was called upon frequently for Hollywood work.
