My wife and I met in the 2nd grade. We dated through high school, sort of parted ways during the first couple of years of college, and a reunion of sorts culminated with the birth of our oldest son. A couple of years later, we decided that we were solid enough to get married (albeit too young) and got hitched. Roughly five years after that, I decided I wasn't old enough, and proved I wasn't mature enough, to be married and foolishly left my family. The divorce process was painful but, thankfully, God got my attention in a rather profound manner and two months after we were divorced we were back together trying to repair a broken marriage. We really learned a lot through that experience and, with God's help, were successful. We had an intimate little ceremony one night after work to get remarried and haven't looked back since. Many painful and valuable lessons were learned in the outcome is a rock solid marriage that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

I was invited to a friends dinner party, and unbeknown to me I was intended to be match-made with a friend of the hostess. Deb used to work with the host and was back in Australia for a few weeks break from her post-doctoral position at McGill. She arrived late and the only empty seat was next to me.....

We discovered a mutual love of single malt scotch, and ended up drinking our way through the hosts' excellent collection until 2.30am. Then followed a great "holiday romance" until she went back to Montreal. That was 13 years ago.

I didn't know about the prospective "set-up" with the hostess's friend until weeks afterwards - I would have been too busy washing what's left of my hair to attend the party if I had; she turned out to be clinically unstable. Deb on the other hand is only slightly deranged

We're not married yet, but I figured I could post anyway.

I knew him somewhat in middle school band, but when he went to high school (he's a year older), I forgot about him. In high school I didn't like a lot of people in band because I was teased, including Grant. I didn't start liking him until about the end of my sophomore year. He had a girlfriend up until his senior year/my junior year, and the whole time I had a crush on him. After he ended his relationship we started going on walks and talking. This went on for a couple months.

The summer before he went to college I went to a school program for six weeks and when I was done he went on vacation for a week, so no communication happened. Shortly before he left for college marching band we started up the walking/talking again. I was the one to confess my feelings, which was in an e-mail because he left already. We dated for a little over two years since then and he proposed on this past Christmas Day.

It's been interesting thus far because the bulk of our relationship has been long-distance due to college, but it seems to be working out so far! :D

Several of the above answers could apply.
My mom and her cousin were neighbors when I was stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS.

The women convinced Joyce to write me a letter. We wrote, we met, we dated and married.
We'll hit 32 years this July.
She still doesn't like it when I introduce her as my first wife.

(Fiancee, not spouse...)

We met at work. I had been there for 3 years, and she moved here from halfway across the country for Grad school. She took a job at my company to pay her way through school...the rest is history! :)

I am honored to have responses from such illustrious 'Netters.

Yes, I wanted the coffee - no I needed the coffee. In my experience telephone people are second only to sailors in the need for coffee.

I had been paying for it all along - $2.00 a week. That's how long ago it was.

My Precious Angel now admits that her accusation was just an ice-breaker. But it was a union shop and I was a non-union outside contractor and I thought she was serious. I didn't need the hassle of a grievance - so I married her.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Husband #1: in a motorcycle shop
Husband #2: from a singles ad I put in back when they were still in newspapers
Current flame: in the brass band.

CF (current flame) story is sort of my fave in a way; he joined the band, and I about fell off my chair right away, just one of those things. It took me six months to get him to ask me out (yeah I'm still old fashioned and HE had to ask ME out rather than me doing the asking) and my goodness but that took a lot of significant eyelash-batting. It only finally happened after he had a skiing accident and showed up on crutches and we got to talking about skiing. However, that was five years ago and we still regularly make blatting noises in a band (he on trumpet, me on horn, but at that time I was in the tuba section.) He still rings my chimes, too!
