If you like the 6 1/2, you'll most likely also like the 51D. But try everything you can get your hands on first. You may be surprised what you end up on.

What's a Besson 8025? I've never heard of this. I would be curious to know. What's the horn like?coyote wrote:I have recently purchased a Besson Euphonium (model 8025)...

I personally have had positive results with the Wick Steven Mead series. I have played on the SM5, SM4, and recently fell in love with the SM3. I like the comfort, ease of playing, and the tone that these mouthpieces produce. You should also look at the Schilke 51D, 52D, 52E2, Bowman BB-1, and Bach 5G, 4G. Keep in mind a mouthpiece is a very personal piece of equipment and you need to find one that is comfortable and helps you play at your best.

As mark said "try everything and see what you like...."
I've been using a Doug Elliott XT 104 K or SM3 as my main mp, but have been using WWBW, with their nice return privileges, to try some non standard mps. I think I have found a sleeper. A Curry 3D bass trombone mp. It's a thin rim mp. Cup depth is much like an SM3, but more funnel shaped. Fairly massive. Plays beautifully for me. Better articulation and easier centering of the notes than either the Elliott or the SM3. Perhaps a little brighter than the others, but not distastefully so, still sound like a euphonium. I think maybe it would be a good soloist's mp. I'm keeping it.

Mouthpieces are very personal. I have tried just about everything out there, and always end up on my SM3 on my 642. I prefer the larger mouthpiece though. To those who do not like something quite that large may want to try the SM4 or perhaps the BB1. I think the BB1 for my liking was a little stuffy and hard to blow through the lower and upper register. With my SM3, nothing is impossible. It's the perfect moutphiece for me.
