Spririt (DCI): 3 low brass spots available...

Post by jon112780 »

I'm one of the low brass instructors for SPIRIT (Jacksonville, AL) this year, and thought I would post this.

"The corps is currently looking for (1) more contra and (2) more bari/euphs. It's not a 'need', but a hope to beef up these sections. There are some real nice charts which are low brass friendly, and strong players are encouraged."

Just got back from camp last night, and the show is going to be a blast! The new horns sound great! If you tuba players out there think you have a kick *ss low range and want to get some exercise this summer, shoot an email to our Brass Co-Caption Head, Mark Waymire- markwaymire AT hotmail.com

You might want to check the website for more information on auditioning, music, fees, etc... http://www.spiritdrumcorps.org/" target="_blank

There are a few reasons that won’t make me join, yet I happen to be curious about the said new instruments: pitch, number of valves, links to makers’ sites?

To answer those questions:

First off, all World Class corps use Mixed pitch horns. I was in the last hornline that had G's. So they would be in Bb.
These marching tubas have 3 valves...If you want to throw your 13 or 123 in tune, there's a little lever for the left hand...Plus they're lighter that way. The only marching tubas with 4 valves are made by Dynasty.
For the makers' site:
Manufacturer
