Another batch of Bloke pieces - models 1 & 2, is currently in production. They will be available on http://www.housermouthpiece.net sometime next week once we have a few cleaned up and posing for pictures. After many hours of reflective thought and a few sudsy beverages in our separte locations, we've determined that the #1's will be adorned with an engraving of Atlas and the #2's with a mug of beer. I'll leave analysis of the intrinsic meaning of the symbols and their contribution the the mouthpiece playing characteristics to Joe. Anyone on Joe's short list, will receive their pieces through him.

Just an update on this thread. I tried the Blokepiece #1 on my Yorkbrunner for a long rehearsal and concert on Saturday and have to say that this is a really impressive mouthpiece. The notes in the low register slot better and the core of the sound is stronger. I received many comments from audience members on how good it sounded. It felt very good and my chops weren't too badly beat up after we were done.

I will be using this mouthpiece more on various horns to see what other things come out of the bell.

Which blokepiece or which permutation of blokepiece elements did you try?

I like the #1 (flat rim, narrow backbore) for my F tuba, but it is on the wide side for such small tubas. Not that it can be heard, but it takes a strong embouchure. The reports of success on larger tubas confirm this piece giving room for a lot of sound.

I have been using my blokepiece on my Boosey Eb for the past 4 months or so, using it in brass band, brass quintet and a pops orchestra. It helps give the old girl a bit more color to her sound. These old Boosey/Bessons can be a bit monochromatic since they are built like tanks with heavy guage brass and alot of heavy bracing. Also the artix are very covered.

I think the Blokepiece adds the color due to the shallower cup but still has an easy low register, probably due to the fairly large rim inner diameter.

PS I had mine H-Koted by Mr. Houser (strictly due to vanity. I like the look of a gold mouthpiece on my silver tuba. Now if I could only get a mug of beer engraved on it....)

If that is one of those ultra hard cutting-tool coatings, you better had that beer mug engraved before the coating...
