I dunno, pachy. Obviously Gould knew what he was doing, what he wanted. His intent was to focus on the 2 lines in the title, otherwise he could have added piano and/or guitar too...or ukulele, or mandolin, or banjo.

I'm no purist, believe me, but that to me feels like taking too much liberty. There's a purity about it the way it is. Perhaps some research into the origins of the duets?? Who is Benny?

I'll add some attempts at humor in a subsequent post.

not an easy thing to find! (third page on Google) http://www.vcisinc.com/clarinetmusicduets.htm
Benny's Gig, 8 Duos for Clarinet and Double Bass by Morton Gould. G. Schirmer, 1980, SS, 20 pages. These eight duos were written for Benny Goodman by the composer. The first is marked (1962) Celebrating Benny's 1962 Russian Tour while the last is for Benny's 70th Birthday May 1979. Larry Comb's recording is recommended.

Drums? Why not? Definitely brushes. Likely would sound great. Why not rehearse both ways... You'll know almost instantly, I'd bet.
