Re: collectors
Brings back memories. I have a couple of thousand of them. Mostly from the sixties. I believe collecting these cards had a resurgence during the 90's. I'm not sure it is so popular, anymore.

Re: collectors
IMHO, the cards used to be much more valuable because of the perceived shortage of high quality cards in each market.
The internet has made every scarce card in every cardshop available to everyone.
So the cost and value have dropped dramatically.
Search ebay for your cards to get an approximate current value.
Good luck.

I used to get a kick out of the kids sitting with their Beckett's book open, figuring out the value of their collections. They never quite understood what I meant when I said, "You have to sell them for them to be worth that much."

Re: collectors
I have 20 or so of the 1989 Ripkin 'error' cards. They couldn't be touched for $100 each shortly after they came out. I think I've seen then on Ebay lately for one buck!

Back in the 60's, my brother paid his way through college playing poker. He would get a game going in the dorm and whip out a nudie deck of cards. His victims seemed not to mind losing all that much.

Re: collectors
Don't remember that, but cartoonist Robert Crumb (who is also a fine jugband musician) did several sets of Blues, Country and Jazz Greats trading cards - you can still get reprints, but the originals are somewhat valuable, I am told.the elephant wrote:The best was the Great Moments of Opera trading card series. And, of course, the various flavors like broccoli, asparagus, etc.The Jackson wrote:Now, we just get collect cards of famous toobuh playres...

I don't recall seeing any tuba players in the sets, but there is one string bass player. (see at http://www.deniskitchen.com/xprod/TC_jazz.1.bg.jpg

There is an exception to this rule. Let me take you through it. Please repeat the following:bloke wrote:Oh crap...NOW you tell me...Todd S. Malicoate wrote:Ah, the famous "Franklin Mint" rule...nice.ken k wrote:anything designed and sold to be collectible will never be collectible![]()
"Hail, Obama! Full of grace and truth!"
That should make the watch, pictured above, a collector's item.

Re: collectors
i am guilty as charged however, my dad always bought my sister and I annual proof sets of the US coins, and I have continued the tradition with my kids. Perhaps in 50 years I will be able to sell them for the same price i bought them.... I also have three maps filled with the state quarters.
I seem to have lost an Iowa quarter however. If anyone has one, I'll pay you 26 cents for it (plus postage!)
