International Tuba Day in Rochester, NY (5/17/09)

Hello everyone,

I'm writing here to give you a heads up on an International Tuba Day concert that I'm planning to host on May 17, 2009 at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY.

If you're familiar with ITD, you'll know it's a lot of fun as play simple tuba/euphonium songs from all over the world. ITD is a day in May set aside to solely honor the contribution of the tuba and other low brass instruments to music in general.

If you live in the Rochester, NY area, or plan to be in town on the 17th, I would invite you to participate. It's like Tuba Christmas, albeit smaller, and free. That's right, there is no fee to participate! Just bring your horn and the music.

Speaking of music, we play songs from two books that was arranged by Sy Brandon and is published by the Tuba-Euphonium Press. I have several copies that I would like to sell for those who need the music. Each individual would receive the two books (Parts 1 and 2) at a cost of $7 total ($6 for the books, $1 for shipping). If you have more than one person who is interested in performing, I can arrange something in terms of combining the order in one package. I would stress that I would your order and payment by no later than April 30 since it takes some time for the Tuba Euphonium press to publish new copies.

The conductor is Chris Van Hof. He is currently an adjunct professor of low brass at Nazareth and is a trombone performer here in Rochester. In addition, he also hosts a weekly radio show for WXXI FM.
