I filed some time ago and have already received my direct deposit refund. I quit waiting until the last minute to file about the same time as I got rid of the first wife. Life is good now. Wonder why. he he

Same here. Although the refund always annoys me because I look at the check and think "I could have been earning interest on that..." :x

And then I look at the interest rate and think "I didn't need that additional dime anyway..."

I always think about that for a few seconds, then realize I would have just spent the money, not saved it.

Hi Schlep,
You made the federal government a $4,700 interest-free loan.
I try to break even with the I.R.S.
If I need money, alls I have to do is convince Hariett that my fiendish plan is the smart way to go.

last year i owed $1700 (at least I got most of it back from the rebate). So i upped my witholding $100 a pay check figuring that would pay in about $2000 more and maybe i would get some back the following year. Well this year I got $4000 back! (good thing, with my wife out of work!) Go figure??? I know I did not increase my withholding $6000 worth. I can never figure it out....

but we don't need a new tax code....

Funny thing with that rebate last year, they didn't give me money back for my daughter because she turned 17 in 2007. Just when they start costing you real money (car insurance, HS expenses, etc.) they don't count for a credit?

Of course not! But hopefully more fair.

I apologize for getting into this one at all. I couldn't believe anyone would actually think our present system was a good one. I don't want to elicit Sean's wrath for getting into a political debate. Hopefully, he will forgive this tapdance with the topic.

Well they can't simplify the tax code. Think of all the accountants that would be out of work!!! :D
