Congrats to Mr. Nulty and also his teachers!

LJV, please help him find the nearest Army/Navy surplus so he can venture in and out of Detroit safely.

Congratulations, Dennis! You are a monster.

Think I can get you a deal on a tank for those long and late drives home after gigs.

FYI --

According to the magazine Multihousing Professional, Detroit is the 3rd most dangerous city in America.

Of course, they overlooked Dallas, but included Orlando, so what do they know? :)

rnmjr wrote:I realize I'm an idiot with way too much time on my hands for writing this ... but I assume all the folks who feel like it's fun and cheeky to submit one of those "hey, let's all trash the city of Detroit" posts have spent adequate time there know for themselves what it's actually like?

Jobs are hard to find. Detroit is a really nice orchestra. If you want to congratulate the gentleman who just won it's tuba audition, that is wonderful. Personally, I have zero stake in this whole discussion (which is why I'm clearly an idiot for posting), but it seems more than a tad distasteful to offer posts along the lines of "hey, congrats man, try not to get shot on the way home from rehearsal!!"

It seems to me that Detroit-bashing is such an easy target that it went out of style quite some time ago. If you feel Detoit is such a terrible place that working there would be beneath you, then perhaps you should kindly keep that to yourself, since it seems at least a tad off-kilter to simultaneously congratulate the winner of its orchestra's tuba audition and insult the city itself. Might not that be a tad insulting to Mr. Nulty (if not the city as well)? To me it's like saying "way to go winning the audition, too bad you couldn't win something in a better area". If that is how you feel, I think common courtesy would dictate that perhaps you should think twice about expressing that view, if indeed your message of congratulations is meant to be a sincere one.

OK, now I've really invited all sorts of "hey, what the heck do YOU know" posts and so forth. It is not my intention to incite anyone with this post, just pointing out an observation, and I most certainly realize many of you will disagree wholeheartedly with my view on this matter.

Congratulations to Mr. Nulty and best of luck in your new position!
This may be the best post EVER that I have seen on this BBS. Thank you for teaching EVERYBODY here something.

Regarding Detroit bashing, some people are just way too pc. Wimps. I say bash away! Where's Bloke with one of those terrible photographs when we need him? (referencing his Philly depiction from a few years ago.)
The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you succeed.
Regarding hard work; get tired. Good things happen on the other side of tired.
