In the New York area, this will be broadcast on May 9th at 5:30 a.m. on WNET (channel 13). You can check the PBS website by zipcode to figure out if it will be broadcast in your area.

I hope to see it, but I don't think I will watch it at 5:30 a.m.!

I just got done watching it. I wasn't expecting only a half hour. It was pretty cool, though.

In the interest of full disclosure, I will state that I am a proud Winston Morris student. I would also like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the documentary and think that Mr. Morris practices what he preaches regarding making your own opportunities. He always said that one has to create his own opportunities, especially in the tuba/euphonium world...the opportunities are not going to find you. He and some of his finest students, (and Todd Jarrell), have gone out and given the tuba and euphonium exposure to a national audience who got to see a well-put-together documentary that took our oft-maligned instruments (at least in the general public's eye) seriously. Bravo and thank you Mr. Morris and company and thank you Todd Jarrell.

I was impressed that they were able to get it aired on so many PBS stations, which represents excellent sales skills.

And the factoid that particularly made me glad I had watched was that Miraphone makes about a thousand tubas a year, in total, and that tubas represented about half their output.

There was some really fine playing by Scott Beaver of the West Point band, and by the alumni of Tennessee Tech.

But I have to say that the whole thing seemed a lot like a 16mm educational movie produced in the 1960's, the sort my junior-high band director might have shown to band on the day she had a cold and didn't want to stand on the podium.

And just a taste of the science of the instrument would have been nice.

I found only a short promo video for the program at this site. Another poster indicated that WTTW does not have the program scheduled. How can Chicago-area viewers catch the entire program?
