My dream horn

Post by Tubaguyry »

Well, since the two horns I was looking at were bought out from under me, I thought I'd do a little wishlist of tuba characteristics. If anyone has any thoughts on the matter, I'd love to hear them.

If I could find a horn that met all these criteria, I'd be a happy camper:

- Valve speed of a well-maintained Miraphone184

- Middle register sound of a GOOD old York

- High register sound of a Miraphone Firebird

- Low register sound of a PT6P

- Dynamic control of a GOOD Miraphone 184 (as in easy to play, and very efficient with the air you put into it)

- Awesome intonation/ease of intonation adjustment of a GOOD Miraphone184

- All its notes would feel close together. By that I mean it takes no effort to zip up and down the entire range of the horn (kind of like a Miraphone184 or a PT6P, not at all like a

Miraphone1291, which feels all over the place in the middle to high registers)

- Would not start to shred sheet metal at any dynamic over mf, like Miraphone 186s do

- Would be available used, and cost less than $6000.00

Hey, a fella can dream, can't he? :P

Unfortunately that horn is now spoken for, as is the one Mr. Gnagey had for sale.

Yeah, and unfortunately that is the one criterion that I can't do anything about.
