I played that on the air a few weeks ago, that piece is a riot. Especially when he has the whole ensemble imitating an enormous set of bagpipes.

Yes OLD warhorses but haven't heard in a LONG time.

I'm playing "Four Scottish Dances" tomorrow at 3. Y'all come.

[and then, I hope to never see or hear it again...here we have a piece that sounds like bagpipes - *when the band plays it correctly*. Initial rehearsals were too painful for words.]
Here's a sentence you won't see often:

"It went well - we sounded *exactly* like bagpipes."

Persichetti- Symphony #6 for Band

Leemans- March of the Belgian Paratroopers

Nehlybel- Trittico

..
Those four would make my list. I am glad to see there is someone else who appreciates the Leemans. It has to be the most expressive march ever written. Chill bump time.

Oooh.....Oooh..... Oooh.....I just read Ronnie's post. Dello Joio, yes! and St. George too.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

I love the Maslanka "Child's Garden of Dreams", but I would hazard a guess that it would NEVER get programmed on one of our general tours. Too long and too "out". Playing for a conference or special audience, sure.

Love some of these suggestions though, I agree with Cameron's list 100%. We were able to perform Hammersmith on tour in Japan recently, and it was so rewarding every time.

Not all concerts can have the meat and taters we all crave, but I'm OK with that. Sometimes we all could use a salad for dinner.

Norman Rockwell Suite -- Hayato Hirose

(Not sure what the criteria should be to choose pieces here, but I think this is a cool piece that I'd like to hear performed well.)

Donna Diana Overture - Reznicek
Band transcription features a wonderful tuba part and is a joy to play on tour.

That would make sure the psycho factor is represented.
