C4 Musings
C4 Musings
It seems like everyone who has a Miraphone C4 (TU 23) has had the throat enlarged. (I did.) Why doesn't Miraphone make these mouthpieces with a larger throat to begin with?

the current TU23 is actually smaller than the original C4 that I've got. I wonder if people with the TU23 drill out the throat to make it play more like the original C4.

I tried the RM-9 8.0 and never did get to like it. Dan Oberloh has it for sale on his web site: http://www.oberloh.comMartyNeilan wrote:The Rudy Meinl RM-9 is not that different than the C4 and is available in either a 7.8 or an 8mm backbore, either of which are slightly larger than a stock C4.

Just bought a Schilke 69C4 from Bloke. It came with the .324 bore modification from the factory.
Compared with a PT88 and PT64, it brought the pitch up on E in the staff and top-space G on a Conn 52J. With the 69C4, I would now be able to play E open. Not sure about other pitch changes as the honeymoon is still in effect.
