Update:

I have a non-paying gig in mid-June. It's experience, and proof that networking gets your name out.

You have been updated.

Professionals don't want to hear it. Some people have no idea how many bridges they will burn through such antics, and most can't be rebuilt. It is not prudent to discuss your personal problems with professionals you've never met, and to discuss that person's colleagues with him as though you know the colleague personally, and s/he is responsible for "ruining" your career.

I guess I'm just an evil person for being tired of negativity and attempting to shield myself from it. I've given enough advice to people who won't take it.

You have been updated, on earth-shattering news. I feel liberated now.

Reminds me of a prayer request I saw emailed around lately (and, after directly contacting the original sender, is 100% legit):

Heard a noise. Upon inspection found a boot in my attic. It has a leg attached. Evidently one of the roofers found a soft spot in the decking. Unfortunate but slightly amusing.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

We did a concert with Tommy a couple of years ago, it went over really well with the audience AND the players. He's a nice guy, and a manic guitarist, it's like he HAS to have a guitar in his hands :)

The morons in the state legislature overrode the governor's veto and passed a bill to allow guns in bars and restraurants that serve alcohol. Wonder how long before it is repealed???

Update Update:

Made $5.50 playing tuba at the farmer's market this morning. Play list included: The Girl from Impanema, My Way, Just the way you Look Tonight, All of Me, Georgia on My Mind, and some other stuff.

Lots of kids were enthralled (horrified) by the sound of it.

Hm, forty years ... 1969 ... hey, right on, man, Flower Power! Those were the days!

update: someone's been talking about getting my band into Burning Man this year, and today's head count of members who might conceivably do it is up from yesterday's. Not that Burning Man really has anything to do with the late '60s, but for someone pining for those days, it might be just the thing!

I DO frequent bars, and I often brandish a tuba.

I probably should be, but haven't yet been arrested for it...
