Funky Yamaha Valve Buttons

Post by Bill Troiano »

For those of you who own Yamaha tubas, I came across a site (that you may be familiar with) that sells valve buttons with many assorted colorful inlays. Unfortunately for tubas, they only offer the buttons for Yamahas, but you have 30-40 designs to choose from. I recently received my order of Satin Blue buttons for my 621 (to match my Kelly N.Y.Yankee mouthpiece.) It went over big at the first gig I used them on - a street festival in Little Italy.
Navigation is a little tricky:
http://www.mouthpieceexpress.com" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank
click on "Custom Finger Buttons", "Standard Collection", "Accent Series" , "Tuba Buttons", and then on either of the style buttons that Yamaha uses on their tubas. Yamaha makes buttons that are smooth around the edge (Special Edition Style) and the ones that have the ridges around the edges (Yamaha Style). Check out the colors below when you click on either of those links.

Or, you could save your $$$$ and buy a mouthpiece!!

Nice.

I'm curious about the wooden inlay ones, too. Wondering what that'd feel like . . . .

Does anyone know if these would fit a Getzen CB50, or an old York Eb (not sure of the model #...)

Are the buttons made of a similar enough material, to feel like regular buttons?

Except for the ability to cheer for the Yankees by means of tuba valve buttons, cool! :)

They are, or look exactly like, the Yamaha buttons, except instead of the white pearl inlay, they make these 40 or so colors and designs. They feel exactly like the orignal buttons to the touch, as the material is of the "pearlish" texture. A new word?

The mouthpiece express tuba buttons are 4 mm and fit not only Yamaha tubas but I also use them on my Meinl Weston and Willson tubas. I also use the euphonium buttons on my Besson and York EEb tubas. It just spiffs things up a bit. It also generates a lot of queries.

The Insignia series also allows you to tell why your instrument has some dead notes:
