I don't know the movie you're referencing specifically, but many composers of both film and television allude (or just use fragments from) fairly well known music. As an example, the incidental music for the Simpsons does this quite often. For instance, the music for the scene changes in the episode where Homer joins the Naval reserves, they use Eternal Father Strong to Save. Alexander Nevsky was used quite explicitly once, a tiny little fragment of Finlandia was used in one of the most recent episodes I think. It's really quite interesting actually. One of the Star Trek Movies (I can't remember which one, but it was one of the earlier ones) uses substantial fragments of Firebird.
