Star Wars, what order?

Post by bububassboner »

So I have a few friends that have NEVER seen any of the Star Wars movies. We are planning a movie night but I don't know what order we should watch them in. Most watch it 4,5,6,1,2,3 because 4,5,6 came out first. So, my question is what order should I show them to a first time viewer?

Yeah, watch them in film release order. The connections made from the prequel trilogy to the original trilogy are pretty fun.

Watch "4" "5" and "6"*, and use the DVDs of 1,2,&3 as coasters for your drinks.

Seriously.

If you do watch 4,5,6 get the non special edition version even if you have to watch them on the VHS.

Han shot, period. Greedo never fired a shot in the original.

90% of what I know about Star Wars I learned from here:

The other 10% I learned from here:

Or, reverse that. Both are freakin hilarious to me. :)

PS -- never seen any of the 6 movies, and I'm fine with that. :tuba:

To me, the biggest difference between 1-3 and 4-6 is heart. 4 had cheesy lines delivered in many instances by amateurs, but by the end the audience was emotionally involved, and really cared about Luke making that shot at the Death Star. By the end of 5 (the only one in the series I consider a "great" movie, but 4 is close), the audience was really, really emotionally involved in the fight between Luke and Vader - you really gave a damn what happened. (After 5, 6 was a bit of a let-down, but at least maintained some of the emotional interest.)

By the end of Episode 3, Lucas had at his disposal 6 hours of film to get the audience emotionally invested in the Obi-Wan/Anakin fight, but failed. No emotional connection, no heart. Just a bunch of "technological terror."

Say what you will about his acting, but this moment in Episode 4 had heart! Just dripped with it - genuine, not sappy.

Does anyone think 7,8, and 9 will ever make it to the big screen? Should they be done?

I hope not, but Lucas was never one to pass up an easy money maker.
Should they be done?

Just have your friends watch this video from 3:39-5:12. They'll get the gist of the movies.
