Do they come in a projecting dark colour for a visual support of ones musical expression?

St. Pete's usually come in either a laquer or nickel finish (shiny silver-esque). The nickel finish horns have a -N suffix on the model number, so a 209N is the nickel finished version of the 209.pierso20 wrote:I don't get the eye roll. They claim it s a mediocre horn of mediocre quality.
But hey, I guess that would make it a perfect horn for many of us on tubenet.

Got my new 209N in the mail today. Will keep you posted on how it plays after I have a little time on it.

I have heard of the color lacquer tubas, and have the same
reaction. I think it's tacky.

Re: St. Pete is Making a C
I don't think the eye roll response was an answer to the question, as much as it was an eye-roll to the existence of color-lacquered tubas. To which I agree.
This is all so unimportant.

Re: St. Pete is Making a C
Have had my new ST. Pete 209N for a little over a week now. The open tuning slide does not extend below the bottom bow, but is close with slide all the way out. It seems to play pretty well across the board. Sharp (like a lot of tubas) through most of the range, so you have to pull all 6 tuning slides out. Have had the nickel plating rub off from the sweat where my right arm wraps around and comes in contact with the stack.
I haven't played a lot of other tubas like most of you guys, so I can't compare it with other brands.

If it is entirely sharp, you may want to try a different mouthpiece.
Also, when I owned one (a 202N Bb) the Nickel wore off right away as well. I'd suggest putting some sort of wraps where your skin comes in contact with the nickel.
Have fun with the new baby!
