James, if you're out there, buy something and try it. If you don't like it, sell it. Stay with in your means and make a recoverable investment and you'll be better for the wear. Just do it!

Well, to be fair, you can look back through the archives here and find a few negative comments, people who are willing to step forward and say they don't personally like that tone. Very few of them, among an overwhelming preponderance that ranges from "great" to "greatest", but ... if you agree that his sound is distinctive (which does also seem to be consensus), then doesn't it follow that it won't be everyone's favorite?

I didn't go back and check this thread for the details, but I get the feeling that James may be privileged to hang out in an academic environment with a little more freedom of thought than is tolerated here?

But no one ever questioned James' right to not like Roger Bobo's tone. What was questioned was the assertion that he sounds like Bobo and that somehow a new instrument would "fix it." I and others disagreed. Some found such an assertion egotistical and laughable. Isn't that also "freedom of thought"?
