Last Sunday I was lucky enough to hear the CSO play Mahler 9 at Ravinia. I was impressed to say the least - could not fault the performance - every section of the orchestra sounded great and with perfect balance. Even the harps sounded through clearly. Needless to say the playing of Gene Pokorny was inspiring and very interesting to hear him playing the new Meinl-Weston piston Fafner BBb. It really came through with to my ears something of a German tone - more colorful, but not quite as broad as the Yorks. Really ideal in this repertoire.
It was nice to meet the principal tuba of the CSO after the concert. Thanks for a superb concert which very much enhanced my US vacation!
Looking forward to hearing the CSO play Bruckner 7 in London September
I'm going on this Saturday to see them play Dvorak No.9. I'm very excited! The last time I saw them play it was at symphony center, playing Tchaikovsky No. 4 very awesome performance!

I was at Ravinia on Tuesday, July 7, for a wonderful concert by the CSO with pianist Yefim Bronfman. First time I've heard him. It turned chilly that evening, and the conductor welcomed the audience to "the beginning of our winter season."
