Post your Tuba Kitsch!

Post by David Richoux »

(mods - If there is some way to "Sticky" this it would be great...)

I have been collecting quite a lot of tuba related knick-knacks and kitsch (in picture form or actual items) over the years and would like to share... I will post new ones at random intervals and if you have some, please upload them! I will try to provide information, but that might not be too easy. Three Dimensional items preferably. (Mine are not for sale ;-))

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

With the absence of other contributions now becoming obvious (no offense, 'sheildbug...), I vote that the title of this thread be renamed:

Let it roll a bit longer with the general title - a lot of folks are probably on the road or doing other things, but that will change.

(I really want to see some postings from Eli Newberger - this photo of him has a case full of tuba stuff!)
You can see it by clicking "larger image" in the 2nd photo in the left column on this page:

Just one today, but it is a biggie!
Goofy-Ophecleide1.jpg
Goofy-Ophecleide2.jpg
I see that this is still available on-line. Some report problems with the ears breaking off.

They call it a "Contra Bassoon" but we all know that is more of an Ophecleide, with that mouthpiece!

Some odd ones today:

By the way - does anybody know exactly how to post a picture here without the scroll bar? is there some particular size limit or other coding trick to display the whole image, or is it just file size limitation? I didn't see anything in the FAQs about this.

Just click on the picture and the scroll bars go away (vertically, at least)

Thanks - never noticed that happening before, I was just living with the scroll bars!

Here is another piece:

Flip the Frog was an Ub Iwerks animated competitor to Mickey Mouse in the 1930s.

Keep the images (or simply resize them to) 300px X 300px or smaller to avoid the dreaded scroll bars. All graphics manipulation programs have simply "resize" functions in their EDIT menus, and most allow you to specify one dimension and will change the other automatically to keep the proportions the same. Just make the larger of the two values 300 and you'll be fine.

P.S. I still vote for "David Richoux's Tuba Kitsch!"

Very nice, Neptune!

Are the horns also carved wood, or are they made of metal?

The horns are carved - the whole from solid block of wood by the look of it. I bought the tuba one year, then the curved bariton (I guess that's what it is) the next. They had a variety of instruments. At a cost it would be possible to buy a whole wooden band
