It's a VERY young Howard Johnson. Give away with this one is the Mahillion tuba and the fact that he is listed on the personnel. Just click on "more" and it lists the names that will direct you to the video on a common query. GREAT version of Voodoo Child (Slight Return).

Not Howard; it's Bob, and he's playing his DePrins.

Howard Johnson has long played a TOP VALVE tuba. He told me that is his preference because of the arm angle, he feels freer and can play more easily. "The Mahallion" has that signature plaque on the bell, too.

Wow, thanks for posting. I say Bob Stewart. I've never seen him play a reasonably big horn. I totally dig it, but I totally dig every note the guy has ever played.
Thanks.
Peace.

When I saw him and Howard Johnson together at JazzFest (New Orleans) about 15 years ago in sort of a Mini-Gravity, Bob was playing a Yamaha YBB-621 - I asked him after the show if he ever used larger horns - he said he was happy with what he was getting from that Yamaha, didn't need much more...
