University of Puget Sound

Post by RyanSchultz »

I’m looking for a few talented tubists and euphonists to start studying at the University of Puget Sound in the fall of 2010. http://www.pugetsound.edu" target="_blank

We have a serious musical environment in the heart of a premier liberal arts college. As far as I can tell, it is a combination that makes us very unique in the west: a national liberal arts school with an accomplished music faculty with extensive academic and performance backgrounds. Not only do I feel that we have a great environment for music majors, but I feel that we have at least as good an environment for non-music majors; recent alumni (“non-majors”) of my studio have pursued studies in Law School and Dental School. The University has much to offer. On the musical front, our students earn recognition in Regional and National Competitions; among those students is Justin Ehli, Euphonium ’09, who played an amazing senior recital last spring and was a Regional MTNA solo winner. (I’ll try to upload Justin’s recital soon.) Our tuba alumni have had successful performing careers and hold tenured University positions.

While our campus is beautiful and full of old growth trees, we are located very near Interstate-5. A variety of performance venues in a number of cities are nearby. Puget Sound has the feel of an isolated campus in the forest while being in the heart of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. I feel this makes us very unique when compared to other National liberal arts colleges with music programs.

I am interested in any serious student of the euphonium or tuba. While our admission standards are high, I am willing to assist any qualified “low brasser” with the admissions process.

If you might be interested, I encourage you to fill out the form found in the link below:

http://www2.ups.edu/forms/request-freshman.shtml" target="_blank

This will enable us to get the information you need to make a more informed decision about what we have to offer.

If you are interested in a music education degree, not only are you assured of a great education, but of having the opportunity to have a Masters degree (Master of the Arts in Teaching or MAT) and to be teacher certified in only five years. At many schools, it is hard to finish a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in five years. Our small class size makes it much easier to get the courses you need when you need them.

If I can be of any assistance, my email name ATpugetsound.edu is rschultz.

I now have a DVD of Justin's recital. It may take me a day or two to figure out how to get it up here.
