G&W comparable to PT-88. Discuss

Hi Josh.

That would be the Bayamo. Good sound a little more power and focus, a little less color in the sound but cleaner. The lite is better than the original but I would personally prefer the PT88 myself. The G&W is great, just not my cup of tea.

Do you know of any stainless steel mouthpieces that are comparable to the PT-88?

I use a LOUD LM-4. It's essentially a PT-88 in stainless. Kind of like the 88+ version...but really heavy. Then there's the G&W Bayamo, which is like a funnel, but about the same size as a PT-88. The lite version of the Bayamo offers a little more resonance, but still that focused, intense sound. The LM-4 is pretty much about as thick of a sound as you can get. Not much resonance unless you can get used to the way it feels and responds...which takes a long time. I've used it as my daily player for 3 years. I'd love a Bayamo lite, though. It immediately lit up the horn I was using. I have a really big face, so I use large mouthpieces. The Bayamo responds much faster than the LM-4 and has more overtones....I consider that the better mouthpiece. I just use my LM-4 because I'm often the only tuba player in a large ensemble which needs a big foundation (with a small horn) to balance everything.
