Proper Packing Precautions - Sousaphone

Post by Gongadin »

I've purchased a sousaphone from an online ad. I'm a little worried that the Sellers don't have much experience in the way of safe sousaphone packing, and I certainly don't want the instrument to arrive damaged. I'd like to send them a list of packing precautions to take; does anyone have a step-by-step sure-fire sousaphone packing method they'd care to share?

If shipped in a case there shall be sufficient bubble wrap between the bell and the body/circle/valve section to avoid damaging interaction between them. It is most important that moutpiece/neck/bits are packed in soft material and secured, so that they don’t move around in the case.

There is no case included with this instrument - hence the concern!

A strong box is important. From there the separation of parts and a well padded distance to the walls of the box are the important things. Also important is that nothing shall be able to move around in the box and thereby get momentum for at crash.

I'm sorry, Elephant, but that is the most ridiculous suggestion I've heard. You as a repairman should know that you can't hammer a tuba completely flat! I'm sure there will still be notes that remain sharp.

He can't fill the horn with right notes, Elephant! It's a left-handed sousaphone!
