And what tubas will they use? :) I guess we'll find out in a few minutes...

Good close-ups of Baer in the first half though!

Morris Kainuma played 2nd tuba

Sounded GREAT! Though I feel like a damn fool watching it on TV, when it's only 2 miles away from me. :)

My PBS station is not showing it at all. I hope they replay it sometime.

Try looking for "Live From Lincoln Center" - it is sometimes listed that way.

Joe - yes, Alan Baer was playing the Kodiak on the Berlioz, and the 6450 on the Lindberg and Messiaen.

BTW, the blokepieces are great! :D
I didn't want to make a switch so close to the concert.

Cheers,
Morris

Not that it effects him in the least, but I never realized how off-center Al Baer's mouthpiece placement is. Interesting.

I just listened to the Lindberg. Great piece!

I am convinced that 90% of the problems with rhythm, tone, intonation, articulation, technique, and overall prowess on the horn are related to air issues.

The concert was no shown in Buffalo yesterday. However, I spent a good couple hours yesterday afternoon going day by day through the local PBS affiliates website adding programs I wanted to watch to my calendar. In addition to the NY Phil concert, I found several other programs I am looking forward to watching (LA Phil & Dudamel: Opening Night Concert playing Mahler 1 and the premiere of John Adams' "City Noir"). If you have the time, I recommend scoping out you local PBS station's TV schedule as well.

FYI, for those in Buffalo & Western New York, this concert will be shown on September 20 at 4pm on WNED.

Perfect for ratings--going against the televised home opener of the Bills game--our local PBS station wins the stupid award for getting ratings.....they never learn. Even the orchestra finally learned never to have a concert opposite a Bills game in a Blue Collar town like Buffalo..
