How tall are you (and tuba players on average)?
I've acquired a mental image of a tuba player being over 6" tall, although personally I'm only 5'10".
Throughout my life, there has never been a short tuba player come accross my sight. How tall are you?

I'm 5' 11" most of the others that I play with are 6+ with one exception, a friend of mine is only about 5'4" and it shows when she lines up with the rest of the sousa line.

I am six feet tall.
(As I've mentioned before, my height got in the way of playing my Yamaha 621. Some folks my height and taller do just fine with the same kind of horn; I just can not live with it without a stand)

5' 11". You didn't ask for weight but I'm 240 pounds. Many of the tuba players I know are on the 'heavy' side.

5'10'', which is about the usual for tubists around my area. And not svelte!

Give it another 20 years!KiltieTuba wrote:yea where did this stereotype of rather heavy-set players come from? I only weigh about 163lbs, with an estimated 15% body fat

I bet I have 30 years on him, still right around there (and 6' 2''.) I think we are not all equally endowed in this respect, but there are also some lifestyle issues (and I'm not really talking about beer.)TubaTinker wrote:Give it another 20 years!KiltieTuba wrote:yea where did this stereotype of rather heavy-set players come from? No longer active as a brass player, but I was still just a tad under 5'3" when I was active. I'm still about 100# sopping wet.
