The cost of shipping a tuba
How much roughly does it cost to ship a tuba say from Indiana to Florida? And would you trust shipping?

If you have the overall weight of the tuba, case, packing material and box or other suitable container, and its exterior dimensions, all of the major courier services have online calculators to give you an estimate, which will be +/- @10% depending on the "fuel surcharge" they add later.

I would say shipping would be somewhere from $250 - $300 and the box if you have them pack it is around $40 and for god's sake make sure you insure it.

Put it on a Greyhound bus. Probably around $50. Quick and reliable. The only drawback is their liability limits... although in shipping probably 50 tubas over the last five years I've not had a reason for a claim.

Re: The cost of shipping a tuba
I am having a small (very small!) tuba shipped to Chicago from Pennsylvania by Greyhound. Punching in exaggerated dimensions (so as to not get any surprises!) I came up with I believe $45 and it would take about 2 days to get here.
Keep in mind this horn is about 31" high and has a 15" bell- don't expect a giant contrabass to be the exact same!
I once took the megabus from Chicago to Missouri to deliver a tuba to someone from Alabama, I believe. If you get your ticket early enough and there is a route for you, that's not a bad idea. I got my tickets only a few days before, so it cost me about $100 (split it with the buyer). They also bought me donuts!

Well of course you have to negotiate in the donuts. Definitly don't forget the donuts. A good cup of coffee would be nice tooBob Kolada wrote: I got my tickets only a few days before, so it cost me about $100 (split it with the buyer). They also bought me donuts!

Actually, I think brought a little 200ml bottle of vodka with me for the ride home....

I just had a tuba shipped from WA to NC. UPS packed it, insured it and shipped it for $365. It arrived 1 week later, right on schedule, in fine shape.

I had a bat tuba shipped to me via Greyhound. It was in 2 cases, a Besson recording style with removable bell. Shipped from TN to CA. Arrived in fine shape, on time, and cost was low; I think I recall about $125.
