As usual there are problems with Marine DC links. The page will not open.

It might be because you are a "Furriner" and .mil websites could have some problem with that? I am just guessing here - may be nothing at all... :?

I am also having problems with the site here in California - not "furrin" AFAIK - Mac OS Safari won't work, Firefox gets me to the main Marines site but nothing comes up for http://www.marineband.usmc.mil" target="_blank

My Windows computer is not working right now, can't check that...

I am on Mac Snow Leopard OS, and the link works neither in

Safari,
Firefox,
Explorer (old),
Flock,
or Opera.

Usually I have no problems with accessing the other DC band sites. Sometimes there are mp3’s worth downloading.

Klaus,

I'm in Switzerland and also had trouble with the website, but I was able to find a "snapshot" of their tour schedule if you are interested in their tour dates. Unfortunately their not coming through Europe....

I would love to hear them.

It hardly will be possible to hear the DC marine band outside the US except of some hypothetical state event. But I assume that this band like the other DC bands has a page from where to download recordings in MP3 format.

On one of the horn lists there is a former player from another US marine band, who also has problems about getting access to the DC marine site. I think it was him who suggested the problem being with hardware firewalls at the receiving end, because the marine server cannot get the proper response from the receiving computer. I have such firewall, which makes my address look like at black hole in the web. I am not giving up that kind of security.

I got my tickets for the 10/10 performance in Eugene. Bunch of brassy folks are going, with one token flute player...but she's a retired Marine.

Hmmm,
that website usually works. Will inform the public affairs office tomorrow, maybe they are doing maintenance? And yes, there are some tracks you can download for free, I believe. In any case, go see the tour band! They've been preparing for a few weeks now and sound great.

I have a solution.

If you are on the west coast and want to go to a concert, post where you are and I can give you the closest performance venue and date. Caveman style.

Maybe they don’t like nasty question!

I remembered a onetime workaround, where I could go to the DC marine band via the Ensembles’ page found on top of TubeNet. Only it didn’t work this time. The Coast Guard link appears to be outdated, but I came through to the West Point academy band. And here is the question:

The West Point concert band lists two tubists, and there apparently are no tubists in any of the other large groups listed. How comes the marching band photo showing 4 sousaphones? Is the string bassist faking it and the jazz band bassboner doubling?

Interesting to see the concert band having a pianist who is a citizen of Beijing - China.

I just tried the link - nothing. It WAS working yesterday. I have never had a problem with it before now.

Give it a day, I'm sure it will be fine.

Must be the huge amount of traffic looking for info about Tom Holtz and his magic helicon :x

The site wouldn't work for me.
Are there dates in California?
How do I obtain tickets if the site is not accessible?
Thanks in advance - hald
