"share" drop-down

Postby bloke » Tue Sep 22, 2009 11:43 am

The "share" drop-down is very pesky, and drops down even if one happens to merely run their cursor past it (and encourages one to curse :P ). There is no "x" button to get rid of it, and I usually have to click on a blank spot on the page quite a few times to make it disappear and get out of the way of text I'm trying to read.

Those are becoming a nuisance all over, on virtually every online news source.

(Love your new avatar by the way - my favorite character from a fabulous show.)

I don't see that pull down because it's listed in my HOSTS file (http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php?v=250").

Just a suggestion. You might try adding a HOSTS file to block those sorts of things. I use MVPS... which is updated every few weeks.

You can also use Adblock to get rid of those. Right-click and "Adblock image..."

Technically you are not blocking the TARGET (that would just give you a dead link), but rather the SOURCE of the graphic which is really "s7.addthis.com" I'm with you. Hosts files are a great way to block unwanted items from going OUT from your machine. Although I am a Linux user (not particularly susceptible to viruses), I use the MVPS hosts file to block ads and other junk. Unfortunately, I have found that the MVPS file does on occasion block seemingly benign sites. For example, Techbargains.com uses some garbage domains (ie akjhdf.com) to link to products outside of their domain (like dell.com). I pretty much have to disable MVPS to get those links to work. I don't know why techbargains.com doesn't just link directly. Maybe it is a legal issue.
