The first Tuba Quartet piece?

I am in the process of re-engraving the Grodon Jacob "Four Pieces" for Tuba Quartet and it got me thinking about what was the first tuba quartet ever composed. This would be for 2 Euphs and 2 Tubas. Any one have any ideas?

There is this book in many libraries that has articles about this----Todd can tell you the name.

Perhaps "Brass Anthology," a compilation of brass-related articles from "The Instrumentalist"? Large books...red binder.

I suspect the answer would be easily found by searching the indices of "Tuba Journal."

I think the first published one was "Friendly Giants" by Eric Ball. In some places I've seen it listed as 2 euphoniums+2 basses, in others as 2 Eb basses + 2 BBb basses. I'm sure there were others prior to this, which as James mentioned was from the 1940's, but that I've seen/been able to find, this is the one. (admittedly, the last time I really looked was prior to the internet, etc. and was doing it the old fashioned way, with sources such as RILM and RISM, and such)

i have a copy of a tuba 4tet written by Eric Ball, it is undated, and scored for 2 Eb and 2 Bb tubas, and does not have any other title. It is a nice little piece with some good harmonies.
(he also notes that it could be played by 2 Eb horns and Bb baritones as well).
