I was wondering where I can find information on brass instrument making/building? Maybe about what tools are used, measurements of tubing, or what factors are considered in acoustics (I'm sure one can get a whole degree on this). If there's a book or website, recommendations are definitely welcome. I've always been interested in building/putting together/repairing horns, so I'm just looking for info.
Thanks!

Some 20 years ago I read the book used by the GDR theory school for brass instruments makers. There likely will be a similar book for the apprentices of the unified Germany. The main school is in Hannover.

Also, on the same website, pictures of the Conn factory in 1911. Very dirty work!scottw wrote:Try this: http://www.oberloh.com/gallery/tubaoverhaul.htm" target="_blank" target="_blank

Karl Kleinstuber had a really good website about making tubas, but it has disappeared.

Re: Instrument Making/Construction Information?
Bump.
I'm aware of how much time, energy, and money it would cost to put together a horn, but any information would be appreciated. I know just "getting in there" and doing some work is the obvious notion, yet I rather have some information to help me get through
.
Thanks!
Joseph Guzman
PS-I'm not really looking into constructing from the "ground up", but possibly into "frankensteining" some horns

I realize that, but finding some information on fabrication of parts would be great too. Just searching for information.bloke wrote:PS-I'm not really looking into constructing from the "ground up", but possibly into "frankensteining" some horns
What you would like to do has very little to do with the fabrication of parts.
