REYNOLD's Eb 1938ish Sousa

Post by Tundratubast »

Were the original Reynolds Eb Sousas' really small or was there a 1/2 sized also built in the early days. I have one with a 5 1/2 " Bell collar w/ 23" bell, but the body, just looks so looks so darned small in comparison to my for my former 28k, it just looks "cute". The valves seemed to be standard a Reynolds/Olds option, but the branch out of the valve section, at the point, where it rest on the shoulder it seems to be rather skinny at about an 1.25" -1.5" od. Was their a regular sized Eb and a 1/2 sized in 1938, That would be my question Thank you, dear TNFJ.

I'd love to post a picture, but I do struggle w/ photobucket, if someone, knows of any easier service, I'd appreciate it.

You don't need Photobucket - just upload attachments using TubeNet. As long as the files are not too large, you can quickly post up to 3 images per message. (If they are too large, Tubenet will tell you - then use your photo handling program to reduce the file size and try again.)

Look down below the message box and click on the "Upload Attachment" tab (next to "Options") and follow the simple instructions. You can place the photos in your text ("Place Inline") or just as attachments.

Bloke, Obviously, you place the Reynolds 4v Eb at the top of the best players list. Have you seen or played an old King 4v Eb, also of the "small" body format, no fake tubing? What are your thought on one those antiquities?

The reason the Reynolds and the King are similar is that in the early days, H. N. White hired Reynolds away from York to develop the King line of valved brass while H. N. White worked with Thomas King of the Sousa band on the trombones. Then White tried to put Reynolds in charge of marketing instead of development, so he left, started his own company, later sold it, retired, bought back in with Olds, and so forth.

So the Reynolds version of this era, when Reynolds actually owned the company, would actually be a step more developed version of what is basically the same souzy.
