Schilleraha (?) 642 Bb compensating euphonium

Well, after liking the Schiller Chinese 186 CC clone, I decided to take a flier and order their Schiller 'elite' 3 + 1 fully compensating euphonium-in lacquer with rose brass leadpipe, large receiver. If it was just OK, I'd move it, but I wanted to see this animal. It arrived today--comes with a nice case, no name useless mouthpiece (copy of a Bach 12). I am blown away--for a little over $900 delivered with case, this horn is very in tune, is very free blowing, excellent compression, slots well, sturdy, etc. Only problem I detected is a 1st piston valve top cap that is a tiny bit noisy-it is the threads-a tad of lanolin on the threads fixed the problem. This Chinese horn (don't laugh) is definitely a screaming deal. 11.8" bell, model pistons, etc.--looks to be a clone of a Yamaha 642(?). I--just like with the 186 clone--didn't want to like this--but I have to say it is a keeper. Perfect for the very few times I double. Just like the CC, for the money, this horn would be a super buy at twice the price--amazing. My 2 cents (or .14 yuans) worth.

I agree and am steering one of my students in this direction. They are very good. I went back to the 321 copy because I'm not a fan of the 3+1 configuration. The valve caps are issuses. One of my other students has one and the problem got worse over time. Make shift solution: teflon tape, but I would think about sending it back for another.

Consensus seems to be that, though the construction is lightweight, it's a very good horn for the money.
