Hotmail Issues??

Post by Dan Schultz »

Beginning late Tuesday evening... every email I've sent to a Hotmail address has 'bounced'. The information I get back indicates that Hotmail is not accepting traffic from Wowway.com due to a high incidence of spam.

Anyone else having problems with Hotmail?

BTW... if you email me from a Hotmail account... you probably won't get an response until this is resolved.

Based on what you said, wowway.com is in some way associated with YOUR email address (ie. your domain or your mail hosting company). Is that correct?

Wowway.com is not on any of the popular RBL's.

BUT, Hotmail/M$ uses their own filtering system. You typically have to contact them directly and it can be a pain. (been there done that)

Contact support at your ISP. Mail can be complex to configure and misconfigure. Your ISP should be able to sort it out.

That is correct. My ISP is Wowway and my email address is danschultz@wowway.com" target="_blank. It's definitely something goofy going on because others in my area with the same ISP are having the same difficulties. It's not isolated to my specific account.

Dan,

a lot of this has been going on the last couple of days. I have had mail bounced from gmail going to sbcglobal.net, and gmail going to earthlink. Something in the air I guess.

I just received this response from my ISP. Apparently there are some 'issues'...

"Thank you for contacting WOW! Internet, Cable, and Phone via email. My name is Sheralyn.

I apologize for any inconvenience. At this time we are still experiencing a known issue with communicating with Hotmail, so emails that have to pass through their servers (i.e. emails to customers that have email accounts from companies affiliated with Hotmail, such as MSN or Live) will not go through. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We are currently working as quickly as possible to get this resolved. However, at this time I am unable to provide an estimated time of repair or any additional information. Thank you for your patience as we work to get this issue resolved.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please email or contact us at: 1-866-496-9669. We have representatives available 24/7 to assist you.

Thank you,

Sheralyn, WZ8

I guess you really can't talk to Sheralyn-of-Indonesia until the other (five) people who use wowway get to talk to her first...
My email seems OK now so Wowway must have resolved their issues. Actually.... it's a fair-sized company that bundles phone, cable, and high-speed Internet. They are based in Columbus, Ohio.

I suspect that Sheralyn might be in India or Pakistan.

The Hotmail problem went away for a couple of days and resurfaced again Tuesday evening. If you email me... DON'T use a Hotmail as a return email address.

Except that the people who send junk snail mail have paid to send it, per piece. Not so for the email spammers. Junk mail is what keeps the post office in business and allows you to send that letter to your gramma who doesn't have email, for a pittance. I would probably send a lot fewer emails if I had to pay for each one; maybe that is what needs to occur to fix the spam problem. Or instead of the sender charging, how about the receiver charges? That would fix the spam problem for sure! No pay, no deliver.
