Who played "Skeleton Sousaphone" at the White House?

Post by David Richoux »

I saw some pictures of the White House Halloween party - an brass band was shown in a few shots. Turns out they are the Chicago based Black Bear Combo

Got this note from the sousaphone player via the Streetband list on how they got the gig.
Hello lovely family, fans and supporters,

Sorry for the mass email, most of which I cribbed from Ehsan's
facebook post anyway, but a jillion people are asking for links and
whatnot, so I thought I'd send them out en masse. Not bragging or
anything, its as much luck and timing as anything that we got this
gig, but wow, what an experience.

Saturday night, Black Bear Combo performed at the White House for the
Halloween party of 2009. In association with Chicago's Redmoon Theater
we performed on the north lawn and inside of the white house. Sorry we
weren't allowed to publicize this until after the event due to white
house security policy.
There are lots of pictures of the band on different major news
websites. here are some worth checking out:

It was an incredible experience and it was really satisfying to see
the kids from local schools and from families of soldiers currently in
battle overseas enjoying themselves and having so much fun. That was
worth more to me (and all of us I'm sure) than anything else. Well,
except for maybe drinking a beer in the White House. That was pretty
awesome.

Thanks for indulging us and asking for the news,
Rob
