Whether you like it or not, sports, especially baseball, are a huge part of our American culture, and have been for some time now (more than 100 years, in the case of baseball). This kind of scandal gets national press, because a lot of people pay attention to it and care about it.

As far as passing legislation on steroid use in professional baseball, I don't understand it. Wasn't that already done years ago, when possession and use of steroids was made illegal?? Shouldn't, then, people like Jason Giambi (and Barry Bonds, who knew EXACTLY what he was taking, despite what he tries to have people believe), be facing legal repercussions, based on their admission of substance abuse??? Steroids are illegal drugs, and I don't see what else government can to do to make baseball players stop using them, besides, maybe, enforce laws already on the books.

Nope, this is baseball's issue to solve. And I certainly hope they do solve it, because I do enjoy watching the game immensely.[/i]

Maybe you should stop playing paid gigs.. you're just robbing the audience of the opportunity to have fun themselves.

Certainly...and, just like I have my tuba, I also have my baseball glove and ball, and, when the weather is good, my roommate and I frequently go outside and toss the ball around...sometimes we even go the batting cages. If I had time, I would definitely join some sort of adult baseball or softball league.

But, just as I enjoy participating in these, and I enjoy playing tuba, I also enjoy watching professionals who play at a far higher level than I am capable. I learn a lot about the game that way, am awed at what major leaguers can do, and then go out and flounder in my attempts to imitate them. But I have fun, and that's all I care about.
